Grapevine, TX – Electronic Arts had a mishap. One of their social media teams misread the notes from their daily meeting and saw to start tweeting about BoneStorm. This person drew up their social calendar for the wrong game announcement. The misfired tweet wasn’t all bad as fans are super excited about the soon to be released game. All would seem to be well, except for one small thing. The tweet was for the downloadable content aka DLC.
The tweet was online for a few seconds before another staff member of EA quickly deleted the mistaken tweet, but in the age of the internet, a few seconds might as well have been days. Electronic Arts has a large number of followers, 2.68 million to be exact. EA’s fanbase would morph the screen captures of the tweet into memes, create Reddit pages, and build websites dedicated to the yet to be fully understood DLC tweet of BoneStorm.
At first, according to the Electronic Arts rep, EA thought the group of gamers would just live as a niche community. Then when the DLC would release, the niche community would just merge with the general BoneStorm fanbase, but they were wrong. They wouldn’t know how wrong they were until they received a call from GameStop’s president.
“We have people asking about pre-order bonuses for BoneStorm: Femur Typhoon?” asked a puzzled Tony Bartel quoted the Electronic Arts representative.
“When we received that call from Mr. Bartel, it was all hands on deck.” EA representative
GameStops across the US were receiving a flood of questions from gamers. Gamers were inquiring about what incentive they would receive for pre-ordering BoneStorm: Femur Typhoon.
As the Electronic Arts representative explained the entire staff was on lock down after the call from Mr. Bartel was received. The EA staff members knew they must figure a way out of the mess caused by the accidental 140 characters. It wasn’t until around 11 at night that one of the members blurted out, what if we gave out BoneStorm as a premium-ultra-pre-order bonus. She continued to explain to The Kohlrabi, their managers knew the Electronic Arts executives would receive a raging hard-on from the word premium, so the project was immediately green-lit.
By time everything was approved and done, EA announced the originally planned DLC BoneStorm: Femur Typhoon as a game you must pre-purchase in order to receive the premium pre-DLC, exclusive BoneStorm. You will receive BoneStorm several months before the game BoneStorm: Femur Typhoon will be available for download. Electronic Arts forged this exclusive partnership is with Gamestop, BestBuy, Walmart, K-Mart, Walgreens, CVS, Target, and all regional realtors.
